Fahrenheit 451
Description
This project involved redesigning the complete book jacket front cover, back cover, spine, and inside flaps of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. The novel’s exploration of censorship, conformity, and the power of knowledge continues to feel timely, particularly because of its recurring presence on banned-book lists.
My concept focused on the symbolism of fire and destruction, with the salamander serving as a central visual element. As an emblem associated with the firemen and their role in burning books, the salamander became a strong representation of control and suppression within the story. By studying the novel’s layered symbolism, I developed a direction that reflects its dystopian tone while emphasizing the tension between oppression and intellectual freedom.
For the color palette, I incorporated dominant oranges, touches of yellow, and both warm and deep reds to evoke heat and intensity. I paired this with the typeface Agency FB Black, referencing the bold, industrial lettering commonly associated with firefighters, to reinforce the narrative context.
